A Midwest girl who married a Southern boy, Nicole Watson creates from her home studio in Austin, Texas. Art has always played a part in her creative journey—from collecting random bits of paper at a young age to selling her first painting in high school, then discovering mixed media while studying art and design in college. Her style is best described as an eclectic blend of technique and whimsy. She enjoys borrowing from her background in graphic/layout design, photography, and fine art, while mixing in color theory and discovering new and unexpected mediums to play with. Messy, grungy artwork with a touch of nature and oftentimes a circle or three are her favorites, along with the splatters, drips, and scribbles. As an artist and a teacher, she’s most encouraged when a viewer gains confidence to try something new or just enjoys creating as a part of self-care. In her eyes, paint-covered hands are the best form of therapy, and to her there is nothing more rewarding than reliving creative growth by flipping through journals of past projects. Her hope is that you will feel just as inspired as she does to learn from others, discover your own unique style, embrace mistakes, and to be brave in both art and in creating an artful life. Playing in her studio and sharing her work with others gives her life, purpose, and is healing to her soul. Living an art-filled life is her goal, and besides creating, she nourishes that by spending time in her garden, art museums, traveling, going for walks and looking for treasures in local shops, usually with an iced coffee in hand. Her art portfolio includes classes on the Creative Fabrica platform; a member of several design teams such as StencilGirl®, N*Studio, ArtFoamies, Shawn Petite, Brush Magazine, and Donna Downey Studios; along with having artwork featured on the cover of the Spring 2023 issue of Art Journaling magazine by Stampington.
