Darlene
Olivia McElroy is a contemporary mixed media artist, author, and
educator. Trained as a painter and illustrator, she has an obsession for
materials, passion for dreamlike imagery, and love of new technologies. Her
work mixes richly textured surfaces, the old and new, and layers of color and
images. Her process of working on a painting is like a puzzle wanting to
be solved, moving the pieces until they resonate and giving new meaning to the
elements by their juxtaposition. The experience is similar to reading
Turkish coffee grounds - a story is revealed as one looks at the surface,
through painted texture, color and imagery.
Darlene has been published
in countless national and international magazines, appeared on HGTV’s That’s
Clever, BlogTalk Radio’s Art & Soul show and been a guest blogger
for several art companies.
In addition, she has had
five art technique books published by North Light Books which have been
translated into numerous languages.
Born and raised in
Southern California, she is descended from an old New Mexico family of artists
and storytellers. She lives in Santa Fe with her husband and three dogs that
are the heartbeats under her worktable.
